Gregory Rodriguez Dublin & Emerald Swim Head Coach

Hello! I am one of your head coaches and most swimmers and students call me Coach Rod or Mr. Rod. I have been coaching swimming and water polo since I was 18 years old. For the first half of my swimming career I coached recreational swimming at Blackhawk Country Club (HOX) and at Monte Vista High School (Mustangs). Now I coach recreational swimming at Diablo Country Club (Sharks) and have had the privilege of coaching at Dublin High School (Go Gales!!!). As for water polo I have coached various clinics at both Blackhawk and Diablo Country Clubs and have coached high school water polo at Monte Vista. Water polo has always been extremely enjoyable as that was most of my aquatics focus throughout high school and college. It is my hope to bring my passion for water polo to Dublin High in the coming years.

At each place I have coached I have learned that before we could grow as athletes we must grow as a community. It is extremely important that each swimmer develops both as a person and as an athlete.

Success is peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best you are capable of becoming.”

Gabe McDermott Emerald Assistant Swim Coach

Coach Gabe (Mr. Mac in the classroom) merges careful instruction and his graduate work in teaching with a lifetime of competitive swimming. He began on summer leagues at an early age, then to year-round in the East Bay during high school, which led to four years of competition and travel up and down the West Coast with Concordia University, Irvine. Shortly after graduating, Gabe spent time living and working in Mainland China and New York City before returning to The Bay to begin teaching. He continues to swim Masters today. Coach Gabe looks forward to joining and upholding the strong foundation of DHS Aquatics with the newly forming EHS talent. The development of the "whole athlete" is guided by attention to technique and fundamentals, with an underlay of team-centric leadership skill building, and lifelong goal-setting. We aim at being better individuals than we were the day before, both in and out of the water.
